Avoiding the MATCH List

Video: how to avoid being blacklisted on the MATCH List.

The MATCH List was created by MasterCard as a way to flag businesses that have exhibited risky behavior within their merchant accounts.

Similar to the Terminated Merchant File (TMF), the MATCH List is used by processors industry-wide, and businesses who appear on the list can be subject to much higher processing fees, or complete denial of a merchant account.

Reasons to appear on the MATCH List include:

  • Compromised account data
  • Fraud
  • Evidence of money laundering
  • And, most commonly, EXCESSIVE CHARGEBACKS
  • While there are firms who can help remove a company from the MATCH List, it’s best to avoid it in the first place.

To do so, contact your processor to better understand the rules. And avoid excessive chargebacks.

More information can be found on the MATCH List site.

And our friends at Chargeback Gurus have additional insight here.

  • A constantly changing industry.
  • The MATCH List is just one of many industry nuances.

The payments industry is constantly evolving, and it can be difficult to stay on top of new developments and updates.
